Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT PLN (Persero) Regional Main Unit (UIW) of South, South-east, West Sulawesi (Sulselrabar) signed the amendment of Electricity Power Purchase Agreement (SPJBTL) with PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (CNI) with the capacity of 412 million VA.
CNI is a mining company which is establishing its ferronickel smelting plant in Wolo, Kolaka district, South-east Sulawesi. CNI’s ferronickel smelter has an input capacity of 5 million tons of nickel ore, as for the annual output in the form of ferronickel is 230,000 tons with nickel content of 22%-24%.
The signing of the Amendment of Electrical Power Purchase Agreement was conducted in Paiton Meeting Room, Headoffice of PT PLN (Persero) and was signed by the General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) Regional Main Unit of South, South-east and West Sulawesi (Sulselrabar), Ismail Deu with the President Director of CNI, Derian Sakmiwata, on Tuesday (October 1, 2019). Business Director of PLN for Regions of Sulawesi and Kalimantan, Syamsul Huda was also present and saw the event.
Samsul Huda said, the signing of this Amendment of the Electricity Power Purchase Agreement is a form of service and full support from PLN toward smelter industry development in Indonesia, amongst which of them is PT Ceria’s smelter industry.
“We highly appreciate this cooperation, because it mutually needs each other. The customer needs PLN, and so does the other side, PLN wants to move forward together with the stakeholders. Let us assist each other so this cooperation will be sustainable,” Huda explained.
According to Huda, CNI is a PLN’s customer with the special premium platinum service. This is a special service from PLN to provide the best quality, guarantee and service quality level.
This premium platinum service means, PLN provides the electricity supply of two different systems to maintain the electricity reliability and give the continuing guarantee of electricity supply for 24 hours a day to PT Ceria’s smelter.
Located in Malili and Lasusua Main Sub-stations, this operation has been successful in optimizing the electrical system of southern part of Sulawesi region. Not limited to that, this also increases the reliability and efficiency of electrical system of South-eastern Sulawesi. At the same time the power surplus of 400 megawatts (MW) in South Sulawesi, can now be supplied to South-eastern Sulawesi.
This interconnection is the result of development completion encompassing 1,265 transmission network towers and six main sub-stations. All these facilities stretch from Wotu, Malili, Lasusua, Kolaka, Unaaha to Kendari. “In a near future, the voltage operation will be continued to the second lane. We anticipate to obtain the continuous support of all related parties in order toincrease this interconnection reliability”, as explained by Huda. Meanwhile, President Director of CNI Derian Sakmiwata, expressed his appreciation of PLN’s step in supporting and guaranteeing the electricity supply for PT Ceria’s smelter.“We appreciate very much the support of PT PLN who is ready to supply our smelter industry with a large electricity power,” he explained.
Derian further declared, CNI’s smelter will adopt the Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) technology in which the planned total capacity of the smelter is 4X72 megavolt ampere (MVA).
Derian also hopes that in the future PLN will be even more progressive in developing the electricity network in the country.
“We look forward as well, that PLN would expand the scope of electricity situation for the nickel industry, one of the ways is by participating in the seminars such as Asian Nickel Conference. We are very pleased and grateful to PLN for their excellent support and response to us,” concluded by Derian Sakmiwata.
